of all students say that content learnt in JHI training was relevant to their job.

of all students said JHI training has given them practical assistance in their current role.

JHI gauges its success not by the number of course completions, but by the practical learning students take away and apply to their workplace. The support we provide throughout the whole learning journey is like no other and, as part of St Agnes’ Parish network, we can assist with work experience and job placement in the local community. Our hope is that through our supportive approach to training and education, we will inspire others to build rewarding careers. Some examples of how we have achieved this can be viewed in the videos below. For more success stories or information about how we contribute to the community, ‘Like’ us on Facebook.

Father Donnelly responds to JHI arrival.

It arrived quietly without fanfare but it was the realisation of a dream which had been around for a long time. The John Henry Institute is a venture into the tertiary education, a natural progression from the secondary vocational education provided by Newman Senior Technical College. Originally conceived by the former Principal of Newman, Adam Spencer and progressed by the present Principal Steve Pares, it finally took shape with the expert assistance of Roger Bush. I sometimes think about the forty years during which we provided training to senior students in Port Macquarie and the number of young people (many not so young now) who went on to provide much needed skills to our local community and beyond. It is indeed a matter of pride for our Parish of St Agnes to have given something of such value to our community. It has come at a cost but it has been money well spent. At the heart of the endeavour has been the presentation to students of those great human values which Christianity brought to the world. The Institute will continue to promote that vision of the dignity and value of each human person. Congratulations to Steve Pares and Roger Bush and the Industry Board who have been generous with their time and support for the endeavor.

Fr Leo Donnelly

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training system and was designed to support education and training for individuals in NSW and make it accessible to everyone.
