Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training system and was designed to support education and training for individuals in NSW and make it accessible to everyone. Under Smart and Skilled the NSW Government contributes to the cost of each course with the eligible student paying the balance.
John Henry Institute is proud to be able to offer this funding to eligible students in our range of courses. Please note not all JHI courses are eligible for Smart and Skilled funding.
All courses listed on our scope of registration are nationally recognised and comply with Australian Quality Training Framework State and Federal regulatory body requirements.

All students enrolling in a Smart and Skilled course will be required to supply a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
A USI is a reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters that:
- creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, even from different training organisations;
- will give you access to your training records and transcripts;
- can be accessed online;
- is free and easy to create; and
- stays with you for life.
To create a USI or check your account go the USI website at: www.usi.gov.au
You will need to ensure that you set your access controls to allow JHI appropriate levels of access to your USI records.
An apprenticeship or traineeship is a full-time or part-time employment that combines work and structured training, and are available to anyone of working age. They are a great way to be paid for work while developing skills that will help set you up with a job and career for life.
All NSW apprentices and most new entrant trainees are eligible for a government subsidy under Smart and Skilled for the qualification that supports their apprenticeship or traineeship.
When you finish your apprenticeship or traineeship, you will have a nationally recognised qualification that can take you anywhere in Australia and one that is held in high regard in many overseas countries as well.
